This is the same family made famous in the musical The Sound of Music. In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe on a farm with mountain vistas reminiscent of their Austrian homeland. They opened a guest lodge there in 1950. After a fire destroyed that property, the structure was replaced by this, 96-room Trapp Family Lodge in 1980. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M.
